Let Us Work for the Good of All
This meditation is based on a passage for February 5, 2011 in the Daily Lectionary Year 1 from the Book of Common Worship for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (1993).
Text: Galatians 5:25-6:10
Reflection and Question: Of course, we all do need to heed Paul’s clear warning to pay more attention to our side of the street — our priority must be to love others, not to judge them. I know Paul is absolutely right that God is not mocked. Though it may not always appear to us to be the case, I believe totally that we each reap exactly what we sow. As Paul insists here, what we do best to sow is the bearing of others’ burdens and surely not to add to others’ loads. This is why it grieves me so when I see Christians harming other members of the family of faith. What does it mean for us to work for the good of all?
Prayer: Holy Spirit, Love Divine, restore each of us in the spirit of gentleness. Sustain us in this so that we may not grow weary in doing what is right. Guide us, we pray, as we seek to reap eternal life. May we, thereby, fulfill the law of Christ. Amen.
